Description | The Wade Martin site is located at 98 Sly Branch Road in Knott County, KY at coordinates N 37° 23' 21.40", W 82° 46' 50.10". There is a slide approximately 350’ long and 185’ wide in the hill to the Northwest of the Martin residence, and that slide threatens to clog a nearby culvert and cause flooding on his property. There are also portals on the hillside which need to be closed for safety concerns. The site was first inspected on 4/19/2013, and the last inquiry was re-checked on 3/10/2015. To address these concerns, the slide area will be stripped to rock. This project is estimated to generate 10,115 cubic yards of material to be taken to the waste area and will require clearing/chipping of trees from the slide. Access to the slide will be through the Wade Martin property and is marked on the plans. There may be a need to replace the 48” pipe culvert that Mr. Martin has been cleaning out; that determination will be made onsite by the supervising engineer. A rock silt check will be placed in the drain above that pipe if deemed necessary by the engineer. A temporary low water crossing (AML 50-10-7) for access to the slide will be installed as well. The portals above the slide will be closed with standard wildlife closures (AML 40-20-2). Material generated by this project will be wasted on-site. The primary waste area for this project will be located above the slide as marked on the plans. Material will be placed on the bench in front of the open portals until the area is full, then any additional material will be placed on the bench immediately above. Second and third waste areas are also marked on the plans and will be used if necessary. Hay-bale silt checks will be used to minimize erosion or other disturbances due to construction. The slide area will be hydroseeded following the removal of the material. The waste material will then be revegetated using agricultural limestone, fertilizer, seed, and mulch. |
