Reconstruction of Berth 6 at The Brooklyn Navy Yard

The Project will provide repairs from Hurricane Sandy to mitigate flood-related losses at Berth 6 in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. During Hurricane Sandy, the Berth and Upland area were fully submerged, resulting in subsidence of the fill material, cracking, and spalling of the concrete topping layer and uneven expansion joints. The Project entails the demolition, removal and proper disposal of soil, timber debris, and concrete slab. The area will be excavated down to expose the existing timber deck of the low-level platform and then will be backfilled with new fill. After compaction and leveling, a new 12” concrete slab will be constructed to support the operations and uses of Berth 6. There is no in-water work – all work is on land. Work must also adhere to the Excavation Work Plan
