Description | Install. 500 lineal feet of new six inch (6”) diameter ductile iron drinking water main, two new gate valves and one fire hydrant (hydrant shall be supplied by Dpw at 135 Piper Road). The main and services will be installed at a minimum depth of five (5’) feet. Work includes a connection to the existing main at a point approximately 60 feet into Chapin Street; transferring over 13 services (12 homes and one apartment building) from the existing main and the new hydrant, and a 3” depth temporary pavement patch. Paving can be completed at the end of the project in one mobilization but the contractor must adequately maintain the exposed gravel trenches for smoothness and dust. Groundwater is not expected to be an issue based on Dpw’s experience. If dewatering is required it will be paid for on a time and materials basis. All Chapin Street properties have Town sanitary sewer and drinking water services. Once the temporary water main by pass system is functioning the new water main will be installed in the same location as the existing 500 feet of 4” water main, thus requiring the contractor to remove and dispose of the existing ductile iron water main. About 110 feet of water main shall be abandoned in place at the dead end of Chapin Street. Phase Two Work Summary Work area is from Main Street easterly gutter line to the dead end. Work includes full depth reclaiming, grading, and hot mix asphalt with no puddles. Removal of the cape-cod berm, full depth pavement reclamation, sidewalk patch work, two inches of 19.0 intermediate (binder) course hot mix, tack coat, cape cod berm, and 9.5 top course. |
