Description The Canonsburg disposal site is a former uranium ore processing site located in the Borough of Canonsburg, Washington County, in southwestern Pennsylvania, approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown Pittsburgh. The site lies between Chartiers Creek and the Pittsburgh and Ohio Central Railroad tracks. The surrounding land is primarily residential and commercial. The Canonsburg site is an UMTRCA Title 1 Disposal cell site. Chartiers Creek is an active meandering waterway that borders the site. Bank stabilization projects have been completed in the past on Chartiers creek near the site. The stabilization work consisted of cutting back the slope of the creek and armoring the toe with riprap keyed into bedrock. The riprap was underlain by geotextile fabric. Above the riprap, the slope was protected by stabilization matting and planting of live fascines. Erosion of the existing riprap slope has occurred over the past two years requiring the repair of approximately 1,200 lineal feet of creek embankment. Repairs will consist of minor grading, replacing geotextile filter fabric and importing and placing 2 feet thick of R6 riprap on the slopes ranging from 2 feet to 8 feet down the slope of the embankment from the shoulder. All disturbed area will require revegetation after erosion repairs completion.
