Bioretention Cell Construction

The landscaped island is to be retrofitted into an approximately 800 sq. ft. bioretention cell (hereafter referred to as BRC). The contractor is responsible for all demolition and construction, as well as the installation of a catch basin filter bag to control sediment erosion into the existing catch basin. The BRC will be installed within a portion of the existing footprint of the landscaped island in the office parking lot of the Cypress Pointe Apartments at 4861 College Acres Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403 (see figures 1, 2 and the attached plan sheets below). The contractor should minimize disturbance of the area within the landscaped island outside of the footprint to be retrofitted into the BRC and preserve as much of the existing shrubbery as is possible. The BRC shall be comprised of various layers of permeable media and base materials as specified in the attached plan sheet. The stone base layer shall be drained by a perforated PVC underdrain with cleanout valves, observation wells, and routed to an existing stormwater catch basin (see attached plan sheet). The BRC, underdrain, and observation wells shall be included in ongoing stormwater research at NC State University. Site work and renovation of an educational facility in Raleigh, North Carolina.
