Description

The proposed Ridge Walk North Living and Learning Neighborhood (RWNLLN) will provide approximately 2,000 new student beds on the San Diego campus, as well as academic program, public realm improvements, student-centric program, and necessary district infrastructure. The Living and Learning Neighborhood presents a transformational opportunity for the campus to nurture a collaborative and interdisciplinary living and learning community that will provide students with an educational experience that encourages collaboration, leadership, and innovation in a diverse and interconnected world, supporting the UC San Diego Strategic Plan. Co-locating undergraduate housing and support services with academic space, including faculty offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms, will create areas for collaboration, research, and experimentation between students and faculty across various disciplines, blurring disciplinary boundaries, and promoting the mission of Thurgood Marshall College to foster engaged citizens. The project development site is located on main campus, bound to the West by Ridge Walk, to the East by Hopkins Lane, the north by Voigt Drive, and extends to Solis Hall to the south. The site includes a small sample of existing valuable historic artifacts which are expected to be preserved and reasonably incorporated into the design. The program includes space for student dining and fitness, replacement space for academic and administrative programs currently in structures to be demolished within the development site, and permanent space for the Marshall College administrative program. The academic program includes a new building for the Department of Economics, general assignment classrooms, and a glass blowing facility. For full programmatic requirements and descriptions, refer to the Detailed Project Program (DPP). Technical Proposals must be received on or before 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2022. Stipulated Sum Base Proposal must be received on or before 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2022. Timely submitted Stipulated Sum Base Proposals shall be publicly opened at UC San Diego, Capital Program Management, 10280 North Torrey Pines Road, Suite 465; La Jolla, CA 92037, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the above address. UC San Diego maps can be found at website. The Design/Builder is encouraged to propose innovative industrialized methods and will make every effort to meet or exceed all University of California Sustainability and Carbon Neutrality goals within the constraints of the overall project financial feasibility, including the requirement of LEED Gold. The successful Design/Build team will exemplify the university's commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Capital Program Management (CPM) has prepared a Detailed Project Program (DPP) which will be issued through a Request for Proposals (RFP) to prequalified Design-Build (DB) teams (Proposers). The DPP will include the program, budget, schedule, construction requirements, approved site boundary, and other design guidelines. Construction is to start directly after all required agency permits and approvals are given, which includes review by the Coastal Commission.
