Description | The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company has been selected by The University of Maryland, College Park Department of Procurement and Strategic Sourcing to provide full design-build services for the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building Project in College Park, MD. Project consists of the construction of a new, six-story structure with an approximate size of 157,000 GSF. The building includes 5 primary levels occupied by offices, instructional space, research laboratories, seminar rooms, conference rooms, and support space. The upper level sixth floor is used as an enclosed mechanical penthouse, with a portion acting as an exterior roof well for outdoor mechanical equipment. The northeast main entrance will feature a multi-story atrium that extends from the second through fifth floors. The building steps out beyond the first floor footprint on the north, east, and south sides of the building to provide additional square footage. This project will be pursuing minimum LEED Silver Certification under LEED v4 for New Construction. All MBE subcontractors and suppliers must be certified by the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) in order for contract dollars to be counted toward project goals.
