Description | In 2017, the University Library commissioned a facilities master plan for the downtown campus library. The purpose of the plan was to create a roadmap for meeting the an open parking lot, under Library North into a student study space. Lot C is currently an asphaltic surface on compacted earth with underground utilities that traverse through and beneath lot C and connect with utilities beneath Collins & Decatur Streets. Lot C is contiguous to the new Library North Lobby Addition that was completed recently. Lot C is also contiguous to parking Lot L on the western side of Library north. An 18,900 SF renovation to accommodate about 150 students is being envisioned for Lot C. The addition/renovation is expected to include potential 24 hour study space, large flexible space for individual and small group work, 8 or more study rooms, a potential café that would open to the greenway, gender neutral restrooms and also provide a visual connection to the greenway and Collins Street. This proposed addition will be accessed from the new library north addition and Collins Street. The renovation of Lot C will also require mechanical ventilation of Lot L current and future needs of an innovative research library in the context of significant opportunities and challenges. First among several challenges contemplated in the library master plan was the lack of sufficient study space for GSU students, especially during peak hours. The proposed addition and renovation would expand and enhance services currently provided by the Library for its students by converting. The Design Professional Base Fee will be approximately $460,000, which includes Basic Design and Construction Administration services. The preliminary Stated Cost Limitation (SCL) or construction cost of the Project is estimated at $6,000,000. The final SCL may be revised by the Owner due to final programmatic requirements, funding availability or other circumstances. |
