Statewide-in-Service Tunnel Inspection and Analysis

Consist of the inspection and analysis of the tunnels and boat structures listed in the MassDOT Tunnel Inspection Handbook and other air rights structures in accordance with the latest editions of the following references: MassDOT Tunnel Inspection Handbook (Handbook), Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) “National Tunnel Inspection Standards (NTIS)”, FHWA “Specifications for the National Tunnel Inventory (SNTI)”, FHWA “Reference Guide for Load Rating of Tunnel Structures (RGLRT)”, FHWA “Tunnel Operations, Maintenance, Inspection and Evaluation Manual (TOMIE)”, FHWA “National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS)”, and the FHWA “Recording and Coding Guide for the Structural Inventory and Appraisal of the Nation’s Bridges’. The work shall include reviewing previous inspection reports, reviewing and updating National Tunnel Inventory and Element Data (NTIED) sheets and other pertinent data, actual inspection, coding and reporting defects (supplemented by charts, sketches and/or photographs), preparing tunnel inspection reports based on the 4D database, structural reviews of elements with CS4 defects as described in the Handbook and SNTI, and load rating of tunnel structures. All inspection, analysis, and load rating documentation shall be in both hard copy and electronic format using the required MassDOT database (4D, etc.)
