Description | Gettysburg NMP staff shall field dress all deer carcasses intended for processing throughout the entire length of the project. The processor shall be available for deer to be dropped off from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. from one to five days per week. The deer will be euthanized by federal employees at the project site. The estimated quantity of deer processing is up to 250 deer per year. Culled deer over one year of age will be tested for CWD by NPS employees. Test results are returned within 1-2 weeks. Until the test results come in the facility must retain the carcasses or the processed venison and release for donation only after being cleared by the tests. In case a test returns with a positive result the processing facility must follow state regulation for sanitization. Deer meat shall be processed and ground, individually labeled and wrapped. Meat shall be placed in packages weighing 1-5 pounds. The packaged meat shall be frozen. Each package of meat shall be marked with the processing plant's name and marked "not for sale." The processor shall be responsible for the disposal of all waste byproducts from the processing of deer. The processing facility shall be provided with the Pennsylvania Game Commission carcass tag number for each deer. The processing facility shall maintain a copy of the deer harvest information for the period of one year and shall allow for inspection by the USDA with a reasonable advance notice. The processing facility shall store the packaged and frozen meat in a freezer until it is picked up by a charitable organization(s), which may take up to 3 months. Gettysburg NMP shall advise the processing facility which charitable organization(s) will be provided the meat. | ||
