Description | This project consists of but is not limited to construct or reconstruct approximately 1 mile of sustainable hiking trail that is constructed to design standards for high-volume, front-country hiking trails. This section begins at the end of the House Rock Trail near its intersection with the park “down” road and ends at its intersection with the Campground Trail. Minor revisions were made to the previously flagged route to improve alignment. Segments B and N are new construction. Trail is designed for sustainable, high use hiking trail with a 5’ tread width. List of recommended structures: 253 stone steps, 100 SF stone cribbing, 510 SF crib wall support steps, 60 SF stone turnpike, 25 SF stone paving, 58 CY surfacing, 2 culverts. Upper Summit Trail Reroute Approximate Length: 1041 feet Description: This trail segment includes E, F, G, H, K, M and a portion named Western Overlook Trail Upgrade on map. Construction and reconstruction of these trail segments will create a more sustainable route to the summit from the lower summit trail as well as from the summit to the western overlook. Trail is designed for sustainable, high use hiking trail with a 5’ tread width List of recommended structures: 40 stone steps, 331 SF stone cribbing, 93 CY surfacing Trail Restoration and Upgrade Approximate Length: 1759 feet Description: During the construction of Upper Summit Trail Reroute and Lower Summit Trail Reroute multiple existing trails will be used for import of material and site mobilization. Trail segments O and J will be reconstructed and/or realigned after construction. Once summit trail reroutes are completed, the existing and heavily eroded trails to the summit (segments D, L, O) will be restored and/or naturalized. Work will include brushing trail segments with leaf litter, aerating compacted soil, and winching large trees into place to block entrances. List of recommended structures: 12 stone steps, 87 CY surfacing, 1055 LF trail restoration. |
