Description | The Town of Crested Butte (Town), in collaboration with a stakeholder steering committee and Mental Madness, a local mental health organization, has contracted with Evergreen Skateparks to renovate and expand Big Mine Skatepark. This group is leading a collaborative communitydriven process for the design, construction, and renovation of the Town's existing and muchbeloved "Crank's Tank" and endeavors to: Create a community amenity with a positive skate culture that melds mental health awareness with an incredible user experience by providing features for skaters of all ability levels Retain iconic features of the historic Crank's Tank Address critical infrastructure and drainage issues at the current park Create a sense of place, belonging, and ownership among park users Partner with Mental Madness to create awareness around mental health issues through a public art and education component The Town and Mental Madness are now requesting proposals from local creative individuals and/or a team of local artists for the creation of three unique art installations for a 21,000 sq. ft. open space area within the new skate park (Exhibit A). While each of these art pieces will be unique, their combined purpose will be to create a positive community culture at the skatepark, promote positive messaging regarding mental health, harken back to the history of cranks tank and skate culture in CB, and create a unique area for users to rest and watch others skate. The Town of Crested Butte and Mental Madness are seeking multiple artists to complete this three-piece installation, although a single artist may submit for multiple or all pieces if they chose to. The three art pieces will be unified thematically, each helping to promote a sense of place within the skate park and positive messages about mental health. More details on the specific art pieces begins on page 2. This project is a component of the Town of Crested Butte's Arts in Public Places Policy.
