Description

Renovation of a fire / police facility in Novi, Michigan. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a fire / police facility. This request is for the renovation/reconfiguration of Fire Station #3. In early 2014 Sidock Architects performed an architectural assessment and long term needs assessment for all Public Safety facilities. This inspection and evaluation included the physical assessment of each facility's capability to accomplish the operational needs of the Department and to recommend short and long term improvements to further that mission. Fire Station #3 was built in 1978 to serve the southern area of the City of Novi. The station is over 30 years old, but remains in good physical condition. There are signs of the wear and tear of an older facility and general updating of materials and finishes is required. The station is small for modern equipment and facilities. Due to the changes in the fire service in the last 30 years, the station exhibits the pressures of a building not capable of accommodating those changes. There is no room for substantial additions. There is, however, need for increased storage and adequate locker room areas and a separate sleeping area. The renovation includes separate locker and sleeping areas, upgrading the shower rooms and relocation of the site light in the parking lot area. Aligns with City Council goal to invest properly in being a safe community by ensuring that public safety services meets the needs to the community by addressing the facility and resource needs of the stations. The ICMA Study recognized the City's investment and commitment in buildings that are adequate, clean and property maintained. The function of Fire Station #3 has changed and the facilities need to be renovated to accommodate the changes and meet the workload demanded by the citizens of Novi. Failure to make the necessary renovations will result in the continued sharing of workspace areas that would hamper efficiency. Operating costs are anticipated to see a slight increase in janitorial expenses As of June 20, 2022, this project is currently in the FY 2022-2028 CIP . Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction Fy 2022. A firm timeline has not been established; however, construction is scheduled for Fiscal Year 2026. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
