Description

As of June 8, 2023, a designer has been selected for the New Elementary School in Culpepper and the two schools have been split into different projects. No firm timeline has been established for the construction. *The previous solicitation is listed below for reference The District requires professional architectural and engineering services for modernization/addition or replacement of the existing Crestwood Intermediate School and for a new elementary school at Culpepper Landing. The District plans to select one or two qualified architectural firms for services to be provided in a timely manner. Crestwood Intermediate School The Project is intended to provide for a total school capacity of 900 students in grades PK-5, including full day kindergarten; it will include the design, construction documents, special inspections, and contract administration, for the related modernization/addition/demolition or replacement; as well as removal and disposal of any hazardous materials as required by state and federal law. If it is determined that the modernization/addition to the existing facility is the most feasible design solution, the design will need to incorporate replacement of finishes, fixtures and casework, mechanical systems, upgrade to electrical infrastructure, a new fire alarm system, security upgrades, as well as support for new technology infrastructure and hardware being provided by other vendors to meet Chesapeake Public Schools standards. The District will provide the educational program for the modernization/addition to the total facility. The District will also provide requirements for most individual spaces exclusive of any administration areas, electrical/mechanical/custodial areas, group toilets, etc. The successful firm will be asked to meet these needs while bringing the spatial program in line with the most current accepted practices for 21st century learning. Elementary School at Culpepper Landing The Project is intended to provide for a total school capacity of 900 students in grades PK-5, including full day kindergarten; it will include the design, construction documents, special inspections, and contract administration, for all building and site improvements. The design will need to incorporate support for the installation of technology, infrastructure, and hardware being provided by other vendors to meet Chesapeake Public Schools standards. The District will also provide requirements for most individual spaces exclusive of any administration areas, electrical/mechanical/custodial areas, group toilets, etc. The successful firm will be asked to provide design concepts that support the most current accepted practices for 21st century learning. All design and construction documents will be required to meet the standards and codes of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the City of Chesapeake, the District, and Federal Regulations applicable to environmental issues. The design shall also be in accordance with ICC A117.1-2017 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities Standard. Expansion of the schools technology infrastructure to accommodate current Chesapeake Public Schools standards will be required. Site work will be required to accommodate building additions and/or new construction, including access lanes, additional parking, and any on-site drainage, detention, utilities and off-site improvements as required. Improvements may require relocation of existing site facilities or play fields. The District reserves the right to ask any vendor to submit information missing from its proposal, to clarify its proposal, and to submit additional information which the District deems desirable.
