Description | Volpe National Transportation Systems Center Preparation Work for WindTracer LiDAR Installation - LiDAR will require 220V and 100A of service for operation. The closest access point to the electrical gird is through Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), the local utility provider. There is a transformer 310 feet from the new breaker installation point. - Site Preparation / Permitting: The contractor shall obtain all the required permits for working on the property and connecting to PG&E power grid. The contractor is responsible for contacting Dig Safe prior to work - Trenching / Conduit: A trench for cable conduit will be needed, 24-inch inches deep, between the transformer and the required location. The approximately 310 foot trench must be dug by hand due to existing infrastructure in the ground. This will require heavy machinery to break through the concrete. - Electrical Infrastructure Installation: Install one new 100 amp, 120/240 volt single phase pedestal style meter main near existing PG&E underground splice box. Install approximately 300 feet of metal conduit and wire and terminate in one 50 amp outdoor receptacle with a disconnect switch to the identified location. A 30 Amp and 20 Amp breaker should be installed in the outdoor receptacle. Due to the length of the power run, step-up and step-down transformers are required. The component specifications of the requirements are at the discretion of the contractor and shall be compliant with local electrical codes. - Site Restoration / Final Inspection: The trench needs to be back filled with native soil and base rock and new asphalt installed. The contractor should conduct final walk through with inspectors to close out permits. |
