Description | The Arch Street project involves Complete Streets pedestrian enhancements to Arch Street, which is part of an area dedicated as "Barrio Latino" to celebrate this neighborhood's Hispanic Culture. Like much of downtown New Britain, Arch Street is currently experiencing a significant amount of investment and redevelopment, and the street is home to some significant businesses including the Five Churches Brewing and the Criollisimo Puerto Rican Restaurant. Arch Street is also home to New Britain EMS and serves as a primary access road to the Hospital of Central Connecticut. The design for Arch Street is primarily intended to make it more pedestrian friendly and inviting for businesses. As such the design will need to address poor aesthetics, a lack of crosswalks, a lack of vegetation such as street tress, high vehicle speeds, and increase sidewalk frontage to accommodate activities such as outdoor dining. This project has a significant landscape architecture design component and the City is looking for innovative ideas to create a streetscape look which separates the Arch Street project from other projects completed in the downtown. There will also be a significant Public Outreach component early in the design development stage. The City is also scheduled to do a tactical urbanism project on Arch Street in partnership with CRCOG in September of this year to add some of the design elements included in the LOTCIP project on a temporary, trail basis. Questions regarding this RFQ must be directed to Robert Trottier, City Engineer, via email to rtrottier@newbritainct.gov and will be accepted until 2pm on Thursday, September 14, 2023. The City of New Britain reserves the right to accept or reject any or all RFQ submissions: to waive any technicality in an RFQ or portion thereof submitted, and to accept the RFQ(s) deemed to be in the best interest of the City of New Britain. |
