US 97A/Knapps Hill Tunnel - Illumination Upgrades

The illumination system in the Knapps Hill Tunnel is at the end of its useful life and is due for replacement. By replacing existing 480V service and high pressure sodium lighting with 240V service and LED lighting it will reduce electrical and maintenance costs and increase safety for WSDOT employees. As of February 20, 2023, this project is in Final Planning status. Preliminary engineering has begun and environmental design is expected to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2022. The contract advertisement is expected in first quarter of 2023 and construction is anticipated to be operationally complete in the second quarter of 2023.
