Description | The Work is to construct new Water and Wastewater taps. Taps are usually not emergency operations and can be scheduled with the Utilities Division. This service will only be used if City resources have been exhausted. All water service connections shall be connected from the water main through the meter box as specified. Service lines shall have a minimum of 42 inches of cover over all portions, except in the immediate vicinity of the meter box. Bends in the service line shall be smooth, contain no kinks, and not diminish the capacity of the line. For services where the meter or service line requires the Contractor to go beyond the ROW line onto private property, the Contractor shall obtain the services of a licensed plumber to do the work on the private property and coordinate access with the appropriate property owner. Water service taps will be of the following sizes: • 1” tap for a 1” or 5/8” meter in an dirt alley or easement on a 2” to 8” water main. • 1” tap for a 1” or 5/8” meter in a paved alley or street on a 2” to 8” water main • 2” tap for a 2” or 1 ½” meter in a dirt alley or easement on a 6” to 12” water main. • 2” tap for 2” or 1½” meter in a paved street or alley 6” to 12” water main. All wastewater connections shall be connected from the sewer main to the property as specified. Service lines shall have a minimum of 36” of cover over all portions. Sewer services shall be laid on grade to ensure the line drains in accordance with TCEQ regulations. For services where the service line requires the Contractor to go beyond the ROW line onto private property, the Contractor shall obtain the services of a licensed plumber to do the work on the private property and coordinate access with the appropriate property owner. Sewer service taps will be of the following sizes: • 4” sewer tap to the property line on a 6” to 12” sewer main that is 4’ to 10’ deep in a dirt alley or easement. • 4” sewer tap to the property line on a 6” to 12” sewer main that is 10’ to 20’ deep in a dirt alley or easement. • 4” sewer tap to the property line on a 6” to 12” sewer main that is 4’ to 10’ deep in a paved street or alley. • 4” sewer tap to the property line on a 6” to 12” sewer main that is 10’ to 20’ deep in a paved street or alley. • 6” sewer tap to the property line on a 6” to 12” sewer main that is 4’ to 10’ deep in a paved street or alley. • 6” sewer tap to the property line on a 6” to 12” sewer main that is 10’ to 20’ deep in a paved street or alley. |
