Description | The NCTM Roundhouse, built in 1924, is home to locomotives, passenger rail cars, and a full-size replica Wright Flyer. The building originally included 37 work bays. Existing Roundhouse built up roof has been in place for at least 25 years and is beginning to deteriorate. Numerous leaks have been repaired recently. A contractor's assessment of the roof from 2019 indicated that roof may already have 2 layers of built-up roof. This project will start the design to remove existing roof(s) down to concrete structure and install new built-up roofing or membrane roofing. Project will also address approximately 20 downspouts and 37 (or more) former roof penetrations (originally to vent coal smoke from locomotives). FCAP, 2017: "Remove roof material to structural deck. Repair deck as needed. Repair drains as needed. Install new roof, expansion joints, insulation, flashing, curbs and boots. Install insulation sloped to insure proper drainage. Repair soffits, eaves or trim as needed. |
