Description | Replace Structural Members/Decking/Cornices/Fascia/Roofing Materials Galen Stone Hall's existing slate roof is in poor condition due to storm damage and long deferred maintenance. The project will involve removing the existing slate roof, disposing of broken slate, and retaining re-usable slate. Repair/replacement of decking and structural members, underlayment, gutter liner and downspouts, cornice, wood trim, and soffit repairs will be addressed. Low-slope roof at entry to be replaced with new standing-seam copper roofing. Galen Stone Hall is listed in the National Register as contributing resource #1F to the Palmer Memorial Institute Historic District, NRIS # 88002029. It received extensive water damage during Hurricane Florence which flooded the basement and damaged the building’s interior, and exterior fascia. The existing roof is badly deteriorated and must be replaced before other repairs can be made. The project will require removing the existing roof slates, rebuilding structural members, sheathing, cornices, fascia, and other exterior fenestration, and reroofing with new slates. Existing original slates in good condition will be retained for other projects. |
