Description | Excavation, removal, and disposal of an 8,000-gallon capacity fuel oil underground storage tank (UST) located in the central courtyard of the main college campus building. The Work will require a tank removal contractor certified with the State of Minnesota to empty and clean the tank, dispose of remaining fuel oil (estimated 1,100 gallons), excavate and remove the tank, excavate and remove the concrete tank ballast, abandon service piping between the tank and the exterior edge of the adjacent building wall, and backfill the UST basin with engineered fill to below subgrade elevations, then construct a bituminous parking lot pavement section. The tank basin is currently covered with a concrete pad with several cast iron manholes, all of which shall be removed. A UST vent pipe attached to the masonry building wall shall also be removed. Additional Description: In addition to the tank removal, a concrete building apron will be demolished and replaced with a new building apron including access ramps near the building entrances. Approximately 9,500 square feet of bituminous-paved area will also be improved by mill and overlay. The Work will potentially require managing petroleum-impacted soils. |
