Description

Increase Capacity of Building • Design to bring the enrollment capacity up from 636 to 1150 students. This should include adding 12 classrooms, a new cafeteria, and a full service kitchen. • Restrooms to meet the requirements of the increased building capacity, in accordance with the International Building Code as adopted by the City of Philadelphia. Site • Plan the site to accommodate a new building addition, as well as a play area. • Solution must minimize site disturbance. 5 • Refer to Appendix “C” Existing Site Plan for record document to be confirmed during design. Existing Building Interior • All existing classrooms should be modernized with the District’s current technology, updated finishes, and code compliance. • Building stairways and corridors should have repairs and renovations as needed to meet the project goals and objectives. • Inclusion of an elevator that serves both the existing school and the new addition. • The existing assembly space and gymnasium should be restored to meet the project objectives. Existing Building Envelope/ Exterior • The building exterior will need to be water tight and improved. Items considered for replacement include the roof, windows, and all exterior doors. All exterior work should meet or exceed the current code requirements for energy efficiency. • The building structural system will need to be reviewed and any necessary repairs made. At a minimum there are repairs in the mechanical room and the exterior egress stairways. Mechanical • The existing mechanical system shall be replaced in its entirety. Energy efficient heating, cooling, and ventilation will be provided to all areas. • Replace all control systems with new, automated controls reporting to a Building Automation System. Electrical • The existing electrical service shall be increased to meet the demand of the proposed mechanical systems and building area needs. • All interior, exterior, and site lighting shall be replaced with new energy efficient, low maintenance LED lighting with appropriate controls. • The building Fire Alarm, security system, clock system, and telecommunication systems shall be upgraded or replaced to meet the requirements of the project. Plumbing • Plumbing fixtures, domestic water and sanitary piping, will need to be considered for replacement to meet the project requirements.
