Description | St. Lucie County proposes to modify the storm water permits for Lakewood Park to allow for increased discharge capability from the subdivision. The downstream canal system is owned and operated by the Ft. Pierce Farms Water Control District, a local 298 District Operation. 1. Currently the Lakewood Park stormwater system is permitted for 1” per acre per day total discharge as determined by the peak 24-hour runoff volume of the 10-year, 72-hour storm event. Increasing the allowable discharge from 1” to 2.6” per acre per day will more than double the capacity of the outfall systems for the subdivision. 2. The downstream canal system is capable of handling 2.6” of volume per acre per day maximum discharge as determined by the peak 24-hour runoff volume for the 10-year storm event. The Lakewood Park project will involve making capital improvements to the downstream canal culverts to handle the increased flow. Likewise, the outfall control structures for the subdivision must be modified or replaced with operable gates to increase discharge capability. Based upon field observations, there may also be internal drainage system upgrades needed between the existing detention lakes and the outfall canals. |
