Westover Skate Park Improvement Project - P&R 22-4 - City of Harrisonburg

Site work for a recreation facility in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Conceptual plans call for site work for a recreation facility. Westover Skate Park (WSP) opened in 2003 and is a heavily used amenity enjoyed by the yout hand young adults of our community. The Skate Park provides skateboarders, roller bladers, and BMX bike enthusiasts with a dedicated safe location to recreate in the community. WSP uses Skate Lite obstacles. These obstacles are constructed of two layers-the outer surfacing material and the interior support structure. Ongoing staff inspections continue to reveal deterioration of both, which compromises the integrity of the individual obstacles.To ensure safety of our users we contracted American Ramp Company to make repairs in early 2019. However, the deterioration of the wooden support structure continues to cause the surface material to "pull away" and lift from the support structure. As of July 05, 2022, this project is currently in the FY 2023-2027 CIP . Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction Fy 2023. A firm timeline has not been established; however, construction is scheduled for Fiscal Year 2023. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
