The Michigan Army National Guard is proposing to update and expand to their existing facility at the Albion Armory National Guard Battery. The existing facility, built in the mid-1900s, is a two-story brick veneer and block structure, flat roof of different elevations with the main hall being a high-volume space with a low sloped metal roof, slab on grade (bi-level grade access), The majority of the project will be an addition to the east side of the building adjacent to the current main entrance. The interior renovation will be reworking existing areas for offices, classrooms, storage, and new vault storage. New offices, break room, modern facilities for the men's and women's latrines, showers, locker rooms, a lactation room, and a small janitor room. The site work will incorporate removing some the existing 48,000 sq/ft main parking lot and adding new parking, providing security fencing for guard parking, forced protection barrier at the southside of the building, site lighting for the parking lot, providing building surface lighting for the fenced-in military vehicle parking lot, and relocating the Armory landmark signage and preserving the 1800s cannon. Along with upgrading the existing, the proposed addition will be constructed on a sloped grade along with reworking the roof stormwater management.
