Description

The project includes Maintenance Dredging of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) North channel between Wilmington and Morehead City, North Carolina. The maintenance dredging work will consist of removal of shoaled material that has accumulated in the channels since the various areas were last dredged. Dredging depth is 12’ plus 2’ of allowable overdepth for the AIWW channels. The total estimated quantity of material to be dredged is 700,000 cubic yards. Placement of dredged material for the AIWW channels will be on approved ocean beaches and disposal islands. The disposal islands are confined disposal areas with containment dikes and spillway systems. All dredging shall be performed by hydraulic cutter suction dredge. There is an environmental window for placement of dredged material on ocean beaches which extends from 16 November to 31 March or from 16 November to 30 April depending on the beach disposal area location. There is no environmental dredging window for the AIWW channels.
