Description

The fire sprinkler system at the visitor center (VC) of Hovenweep National Monument, requires servicing and repair. The existing automatic sprinkler system is comprised of two water storage tanks, pressurized with a nitrogen generator and inline circulating pump. The tanks and sprinkler system are currently filled with antifreeze. There are eleven (11) exterior sidewall sprinklers, that are assumed to be dry type. The work includes but not limited to replacing the existing antifreeze in the sprinkler system with Tyco LFP antifreeze, or equivalent, listed for minimum temperature protection of -28. The product must be factory pre-mixed in sealed containers when arriving the park. The existing riser shall be reconfigured to provide antifreeze fill and test locations. The water tank shall be drained and refilled with water. The sprinkler system shall be purged of all existing antifreeze and recharged with new. All removed antifreeze shall be removed from the park and disposed of consistent with industry and Environmental Protection Association (EPA) regulations. All dry sprinklers shall be replaced with direct replacement style sprinklers and any other sprinklers showing signs of rust and corrosion or damage, approximately 37, shall be replaced. Spare sprinkler cabinet shall be updated with appropriate spare sprinklers to meet NFPA 13 requirements. All work shall be performed by a licensed fire protection contractor, with a minimum of one NICET II, automatic fire suppression systems, technician providing continuous on-site supervision.
