Description

This procurement is for the mechanical treatment of vegetation within delineated project units on the Nathaniel P. Reed Hobe Sound NWR for scrub fuels management. The contractor shall utilize mechanized equipment to physically reduce brush, saplings, and trees; targeted vegetation will be mulched, masticated, ground, shredded, mowed or otherwise physically reduced and brought down to ground level. Residues may be left on site, evenly distributed across the treatment area. The contractor shall mechanically treat all live sand pine trees that are not flagged and all other live woody stems within the treatment area. Large sand pine trees greater than 12 inches in diameter at breast height (DBH) may be left untreated, not to exceed one tree per acre. Target species include sand pine trees (Pinus clausa), saw palmetto (Sereona repens), and scrub oaks (Quercus spp.). Target vegetation must be reduced down to 3 to 6 inches above grade to avoid soil disturbance and no higher than one foot above ground level. Tree stumps shall be reduced to 3 to 6 inches above grade. Specific trees to avoid will be marked by flagging.
