Description | The Bass Ellison Building, located at 608 Jackson Street, is a former bowling alley which is home to the Fredericksburg Department of Social Services and the Fredericksburg Health Department. It is named for two African American doctors, Urbane Francis Bass and Richard C. Ellison, who were prominent leaders in the Fredericksburg community. The Bass Ellison building requires replacement of ductwork and the Variable Air Volume (VAV) Box. Over years of maintenance, it was determined that much of the ductwork was incorrectly installed and utilized incorrect materials, to include fiberglass duct board. The ductwork has many leaks and inhibits the system from properly maintaining space temperatures. In addition, the ductwork system utilizes air control boxes with pneumatic actuator and valves that are inoperable, which does not enable the system to deliver the proper amounts of conditioned or heated air. The building also requires HVAC Replacement. The building only has one air handling unit for the building, and it is anticipated that the system will be at the end of its service life expectancy by 2026 and is scheduled for replacement. Fiscal year 2024-2028, Project construction is expected FY2025-2026 *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available. |
