US Route 30 (Jefferson Street) at Des Plaines River, Bascule Bridge Superstructure, Phase II

US Route 30 (Jefferson Street) at Des Plaines River, Bascule Bridge Superstructure, Phase II Project, Will County, Region One/District One. Work for the eastbound US Route 30 (Jefferson Street) at Des Plaines River bascule bridge in the City of Joliet, Will County, will consist of bridge superstructure replacement, deck replacement and substructure repair. The current open grid deck will be replaced with a partially filled lightweight concrete grid to improve lane delineation versus the existing open grid deck. Replacement of pinion gear, pinion shaft and rack, reworking of bearings, bushings, gear washers, new machine room wiring, new operator house power, new console, new operation procedure will be included. Improvements on curve radii, drainage and ADA ramps at Bluff Street and Des Plaines Street are also included. The existing bridge consists of two movable leaves with a total 160 feet of span length (80’ each leaf), a total 160 feet of fixed bridge spans (80 feet each side) and the approach slabs. The width of the bridge is approximately 40 feet including 4- 10-foot eastbound through lanes. The total length of the improvement is approximately 700 linear feet.
