Logan International Airport currently has over 280 charging ports airside in service for use by ground support equipment (GSE). The below graphic displays the general location of the existing charging stations. Future expansion is needed in North and South Cargo as well as what is displayed on the graphic. Additional charging stations, require user commitments to convert fossil fuel equipment to electric. These user commitments are the pinnacle of the projects final scope. The equipment conversion commitments are required prior to design, bidding and installation of changing infrastructure. To date Massport’s airline and ground handler partnerships have resulted in conversion of over 200 units to electric in addition to commitments to convert approximately 250 units to electric in the next 3 years. Review the Authority’s overall program for the installation of additional electrical charging stations to service electrically-powered ground support equipment airside at Logan International Airport. Pre-design and design of airside charging stations, including cost estimating. Conduct field investigations and other required data collection in support of the preparation of design, bid documents and estimating for the installation of charging stations and all associated required infrastructure at proposed installation locations. Outdoor lighting design may be included. Participate in meetings with various Massport Departments, airlines, tenants, and other interested parties to coordinate the siting, phasing of construction, and associated required infrastructure improvements. Provide assistance in researching and supporting the Authority’s preparation of the required documentation for funding from various sources Provide construction support services including field inspection and qualified resident engineering during construction to ensure contractor’s compliance; manage commissioning of the systems and closeout of the construction contract. The first work order will be designing approximately 50 charging stations (100 ports) for public bidding. Contractor installation is expected in the fall of 2023 (pending grant award).
