Saguaro National Park (Sagu) Requires Culvert Cleaning

Cleaning of 17 culverts that cross Picture Rocks Road and re-armoring of those 34 culvert inlets and outlets within the project area. The 17 culverts included in the base scope of this project are grouped into 9 locations, as some locations contain 2-3 culverts. Culverts vary in size and arrangement throughout the project area. Individual culverts are ordered numerically (1-25) from West to East along Picture Rocks Road. Existing conditions: Culverts located in the project area have become inundated with sand and debris following 2021 monsoon season. Large amount of sand and debris have filled many culverts by as much as 60% of the total culvert capacity. Heavy erosion exists around culvert inlets and outlets that were flooded and unable to handle the resulting monsoon wash flows.
