Description | The Hialeah Transportation and Mechanical Building will be used by the Transportation and Mechanical departments to perform their daily functions in the Hialeah Yard. Departmental leadership will receive office or workstation space along with conference space as shown on conceptual documents. Skilled craft employees to include train crews, switchman and locomotive/railcar mechanics will utilize this space as a starting, stopping and break point location. Space will also be provide for Mechanical equipment/parts storage as well as completing administrative duties. Currently, five separate buildings are serving the function of the one new consolidated building. The five buildings include a yard master tower, yard office, locker room/restroom, break room, mechanical shop/offices and backup generator. All five of these buildings would be demolished as part of this contract following the completion and relocation of existing occupants into the new building. If the contractor determines the current location is the most suitable space for the new facility, the concept would be to demolish the locker room/restroom and break room with the new building being constructed between the yard office and mechanical shops to facilitate the logistics of yard operations. Preferred construction would be of concrete or masonry building envelope although prefabricated metal buildings or other construction methods will be considered as Value Engineered Options. Use of interior glass walls in common areas and office spaces to allow for natural light into the space is preferred where feasible or practical. Interior office spaces should be constructed of typical office materials utilizing glass walls to separate offices and conference rooms from common spaces where practicable and feasible. When designing locations to be occupied by skilled craft personal or field employees durability of finishes, use for the space, functionality and practicability should determine building methods rather than overall architectural elements. New building must include appropriately sized backup generator. |
