Jordan Skate Park

This project involves the repurposing of clay tennis courts into a cast in place concrete skate park facility to be utilized by skateboarders, scooters and BMX riders. The park consists of 52.34 acres surrounded by residences and businesses and occupies the floodplain and riparian area of Jordan Creek. The park is close to the northern gateway into Allentown and serves the north Allentown neighborhood as well as South Whitehall and Whitehall Townships. The service area for this park extends well beyond the City of Allentown and the park lies on the boundary line with the adjacent townships. The park is scenic and bucolic while supporting passive and active recreation events for all age groups. It is also the site of future trail expansion activities linking Allentown’s urban core with the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor. The clay tennis courts constitute an area of .76 acres and are adjacent to a playground, two handball courts, two racquetball courts and are near a public swimming pool. The lawn area abutting the tennis courts is regularly utilized for sports activities such as football and soccer. Additional recreation amenities include one baseball field (lighted), two softball fields (lighted), one football field (lighted), one volleyball court, two basketball courts, one Life Trail fitness area, one pavilion and a picnic grove.
