W.T. Young Library Urethane Foam Roof Phase I

Renovation of a library in Lexington, Kentucky. Working plans call for the renovation of a library. Phase I is to install 1/2 of the roof system on W.T. Young Library. The work is to remove the ballast from the existing EPDM roof-membrane, install a urethane coated SPFR system and install the sleepers for a future roof-top work platform. The sleepers will be embedded into the foam of the SPR system. The future work-platform is for maintenance-access to the building Cupola and the Rotunda roof, exterior walls, built-in gutters, downspouts and windows. The work platform is to be constructed on the perimeter of the large roof central-skylight system in order to accommodate a lift reaching to the top of the Rotunda. Final award of Contract will be made on the basis of the lowest, responsive and responsible bid which offers the best value. All bids shall be accompanied by a bid guarantee of not less than five (5%) percent of the amount of the base bid. A 100% Performance Bond and 100% Payment Bond shall be furnished by the successful bidder. All bonding and insurance requirements are contained in the Instruction to Bidders, General Conditions and Special Conditions. The Contractor must begin Work specified by the written Work Order from the Owner. Substantial Completion shall be, once started with the aluminum sleepers on site, 90 days for the base project and if accepted, 45 additional days for the Add Alternate. Final Completion being thirty (30) calendar days after the date of Substantial Completion. No bidder may withdraw his bid for a period of sixty (60) days after the date set for the opening of bids. Clerical errors and omissions in the computation of the lump sum shall not be cause for withdrawal of the bid without forfeiture of bid bond. Bids may be withdrawn in person only, prior to the closing date for receipt of bids. The University of Kentucky, Construction Procurement Section, reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to waive all formalities and/or technicalities where the best interest of the University may be served. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
