Description

There are 42 rooftop units of various ages and manufacturers at Hedgesville High, with most being smaller units that can be maintained in-house by the county’s HVAC technicians. However, there are six Mammouth Multizone units that the department hopes to address with the potential grant funding. If those units go down, heating and cooling are lost in a large part of the building, and it is no longer possible to get replacement parts for the units. Burton said parts must be custom ordered, or common parts must be modified in order to fix the six units. The refrigerant the units use is also no longer made. There are a few options that could be considered for the project, including replacing the six units with modern multilane units that would be of a similar footprint and size. The other option would be to replace each large multizone unit with multiple smaller units that may serve only single zones. It would mean more work up front, but there would be benefits down the road.
