LED Modules for Traffic Control Signals

The purpose of this specification is to provide the minimum performance requirements for two hundred (200) mm (eight (8) inch), three hundred (300) mm (twelve (12) inch), sixteen by eighteen (16x18) inch countdown pedestrian signal modules (international symbol type) LED traffic signal modules and LED lamp modules for programmable visibility signals. This specification refers to definitions and practices described in “Vehicle Traffic Control Signal Heads: Light Emitting Diode Vehicle Arrow Traffic Signal Supplement”, “Vehicle Traffic Control Signal Heads: Light Emitting Diode Vehicle Circular Traffic Signal Supplement” (VTCSH) and “Pedestrian Traffic Control Signal Indications” (PTCSI), as published by the Institute of Transportation Engineers. The LED traffic signal lamp unit shall be designed as a retrofit replacement for existing signal lamps, which will not require any special tools for installation, the twelve (12) inch retrofit replacement LED traffic signal lamp unit shall fit into existing traffic signal housings without modifications. Installation of a retrofit LED traffic signal module into existing signal housing shall only require removal of the existing lens, reflector, and incandescent lamp, fitting of the new unit securely in the housing door, and connecting to existing electrical wiring or terminal block. Each retrofit module shall be complete, consisting of: A smooth lens with the same appearance and color as incandescent lenses. Lens shall be tinted. Clear lens not accepted. LED circuit board inclusive of all the LEDs and required circuit components. The Power Supply shall be integral to the LED Module and shall be one piece. Thirty-six (36) inch sixteen to eighteen (16-18) AWG wire leads with insulated female disconnect terminals and provide male disconnect terminal to #10 fork adaptors. A rigid housing for protection in shipping, handling and installation. A one (1) piece neoprene gasket.
