Expanded Shale Lightweight Aggregate Material (Haydite)

Shawnee County reserve the right to accept or reject any part of, or all of, any bid or proposal. 4. All prices quoted are to be less Federal Excise Tax and Kansas Sales Tax. Shawnee County is soliciting sealed bids for the CY2023 purchase and delivery of Expanded Shale Lightweight Aggregate Material (Haydite) for use in its chip and seal road maintenance activities per the following minimum specifications. General Bidding Information Prices are to remain firm for the 2023 calendar year. The bid price shall include all costs for delivery to the following locations in Shawnee County or other location(s) as mutually agreed: First Portion (1,000 cu. yds.): District 2, 1639 N. Washington Street, Auburn, Kansas Second Portion (5,000 cu. yds.): District 1, 2727 SE 77th Street, Berryton, Kansas Delivery of the first portion of the entire allotment of material shall occur between January 1, 2023 and May 31, 2023. The second portion of the entire allotment of material shall occur between June 1, 2023 and November 30, 2023. The supplier will be required to furnish a copy of the gradation results and/or samples of the material to Shawnee County for testing. Shawnee County reserves the right to procure material from the supplier providing the second best bid if the supplier submitting the best bid is unable to supply the quality or quantity bid within the timeframes stated below. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS 3/8" x 1/4" expanded shale lightweight aggregate material (Haydite), meeting the following gradation: Sieve Size % Retained 3/8" 0 #4 15-25 #8 85-100 #16 95-100 Color: Material shall be primarily dark in color. Primarily tan-colored or light brown-colored material will not be accepted. Bidders shall submit, along with their bid, a sufficient sample of proposed light-weight aggregate that adequately illustrates the color of material to be supplied. NOTE: In the event that a bidder has a slightly different gradation than that listed above, the bidder shall submit a proposed gradation and material sample to Shawnee County for approval prior to submission of its bid.
