Improve Safety and Traffic Operations at the Intersection of Ward Road

SHE 072A-046, SA# 23099 This project will improve safety and traffic operations at the intersection of Ward Road (SH 72) and the westbound I-70 ramp terminal ("theintersection"). The work includes the following: 1. An overlay of Ward Road between the intersection and the I-70 Frontage Road inersection to the north; 2. Widening of the westbound I-70 off-ramp to add a second right-turn lane, and channelization of the right turn lanes; 3. Widening and re-alignment of the westbound I-70 on-ramp to add a second ramp lane; 4. Installation of a ramp meter, after which both lanes will merge into one before entering I-70; 5. Installation of a permanent water quality feature in the on-ramp field; 6. Installation of new signing in project area, and an overhead sign bridge on southbound Ward Road; 7. Pavement striping; and, 8. Replacement of traffic signal equipment at the intersection.
